General Packet Radio Service is a service designed for cell phones that operate on GSM networks. GSM carriers, such as AT&T and T-Mobile, provide GPRS services for all phones that support Web browsers. GPRS can be activated without any fee. However, once you start using it, you will be charged according to your data plan (carriers usually charge a fee for each MB you use or a fixed fee for one day). GPRS activation is simple, but you have to contact your network provider.
Instructions
1. Call the customer care department of your cell phone carrier and provide a representative with your customer account login name or number. Tell the rep that you want to activate GPRS on your handset. Provide the exact handset model you're using. You will receive a text message from your carrier notifying you that the GPRS has been activated with additional information to configure your phone.
2. Go to "Menu," "Internet Settings" and "Internet Profiles" (the options might be different depending on your phone). Select "Data Account" and enter all the information that the carrier rep gave you. This information will include user name, proxy, APN, data bearer and more.
3. Click "Save" from the options menu to save these settings. GPRS will now be activated for free.
