Gsm Optimization Tools

GSM optimization tools support interference that occurs with cell phones.

Global system for mobile communication (GSM) was developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). Used worldwide, GSM is a telecommunications network or radio spectrum for cellular communication. From network and switching subsystems (NSS) -- which manage call and service control -- to base station subsystems (BSS) -- in which transceivers and controllers perform radio functions, GSM permits voice telephony through its circuit switched data channel. GSM optimization tools are required to support the capacity of users, radio coverage, decreased interference and good call quality.

RF Optimization

In radio frequency (RF) optimization, an RF engineer performs a drive test (DT) on the GSM network. During a drive test, a site is located, a terrestrial ecosystem monitoring system (TEMS) is connected, "INETR" and "INTRA" logs are made and hand overs are checked between basic transceiver cells (BTS) cells, based on expert, Fatma Hamdi from Tunisie Telecom. Basic transceivers, consisting of both transceivers and antennas, service cells in a network.

Visual Basic and MapInfo-based Tool

Tunisie Telecom company has developed a GSM optimization tool using Visual Basic and Map Basic programming languages. Two external applications are also used--Microsoft Access and MapInfo, a map processing tool. When drive tests are run, data is converted into Microsoft Excel files and the tool shows percentage ratings of the coverage thresholds--deep indoor, indoor, incar, outdoor and poor. Drive testing also allows engineers to determine total quality of a radio condition on a test route, based on etudionet.com.

TEMS Investigation Software

TEMS is a software tool for GSM optimization, and it is used during drive test data collection to perform troubleshooting. Serving as a measurement tool for benchmarking and quality of service (QoS) network testing requirements, TEMS software supports LTE devices, analyzes LTE device data and decodes LTE L2, L3, RRC and NNS messages. TEMS also supports GSM, GPRS, Edge, cdma2000, Wimax, Wcdma, LTE and TD-SCDMA.
