Install Garmin Gvn 53

The Garmin GVN 53 is an advanced GPS system.

The Garmin GVN 53 Global Positioning System is designed to navigate drivers via the existing entertainment systems in their cars. Built-in stereos transmit turn-by-turn directions, and detailed maps are displayed on your vehicle's integrated video screen. This high-end GPS system includes a remote control and XM radio capabilities, along with additional customizable options. Basic installation of the GPS should be completed carefully.

Instructions

1. Disconnect your car's negative battery cable before you begin. Mount the antenna for the GPS onto the exterior of your vehicle on top of a metal surface or metal plate. Make sure that the surface used is large enough; it needs to be 3.5 inches by 3.5 inches square. Position the GPS antenna horizontally to achieve optimal reception.

2. Use the included wiring diagram to connect your wiring harness. Some wires are not needed. Carefully connect each of the required wires to the matching signal in your vehicle. Unused wires should not be left exposed. Wrap them up with electrical tape to be safe.

3. Place the Garmin GVN 53 close to the driver's seat for installation. Ideally, the unit should be mounted under the seat itself. Use the included screws or the hook and loop fasteners to attach the GPS to the underside of the seat, keeping it away from metal or anything else that may block the remote control from signalling the unit. Do not use any screws other than those that are included with your GPS. Make sure that the Garmin is not placed in a location that might expose it to direct sunlight or too much dust.

4. Make sure your remote has easy access to the GPS.

Test your new system by first reconnecting the negative battery cable. Then, install batteries in the remote and attempt to activate the GPS. It should function through your car's entertainment system. If the remote control does not work, consider remounting the GPS unit in another location.
