Unlock A Nokia 2500

Buy a new SIM card and unlock your Nokia 2500 so that you can use it with any carrier.

If you purchased a Nokia 2500 on a contract then the software and phone are probably locked to your service provider. This means that you cannot use your phone with another carrier until you get it unlocked. Unlock your Nokia 2500 to be able to replace the SIM card and use it abroad, change your number, or change your mobile service provider.

Instructions

1. Visit a mobile or convenience store and buy a SIM (subscriber identity module) card from a different network than the one that you currently use. You can purchase a prepaid card for about $20 as of 2011.

2. Get the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) code of your Nokia 2500. You can get it by dialing *#06# on the phone's keypad.

3. Call your current mobile service provider and request an unlock code. If you have been a customer for at least 90 days they will likely provide you with one. You will need to give them your IMEI number.

4. Buy an unlock code. If your service provider doesn't give you a code you will need to buy one from a third party seller. A few online sellers you can use are GSM Liberty, FoneFunShop, and UnlockMe (see Resources links). As of 2011 a code costs about $25. You will need to provide your Nokia 2500's IMEI number, an email address, and your payment details.

5. Turn off the Nokia 2500 and remove the phone's battery. Take out the SIM card beneath it. Insert the new card, replace the battery and turn the phone back on.

6. Type in the unlock code when you get the message "Enter Unlock Code." Press "OK" and wait for your phone to restart. Your Nokia 2500 is now unlocked and can be used with any GSM network.
