Watch out for "free" ringtone offers that come with monthly fees and billing. Many of these misleading websites ask you to enter a cell phone number to get a text message giving you access to free content like wallpapers, games and ringtones.
You may get access, but the service tacks a monthly fee onto your cell phone. In the case of Boost and prepaid plans, you may receive a separate bill from the cell phone company for charges related to the "free ringtones."

Use rewards points from loyalty programs, such those sponsored by credit cards and brand-name products, to get free ringtones with no catches. For example, Coca Cola's My Coke Rewards program offers ringtones for any phone (see Resources).
