Fix A Microphone That Is Not Working On A Nokia 5300 Xpress

A malfunctioning microphone is the perfect way to halt a productive day.

Although the Nokia 5300 Xpress is a powerful device, it can malfunction like any other cell phone. Because the device is geared heavily towards listening to music in addition to performing basic cell functions, the internal circuits used for switching input between the headset and the device itself can develop issues over time. This can cause the microphone to malfunction, necessitating steps that correct software bugs and hardware failures to restore functionality.

Instructions

1. Power the device completely off. When problems occur suddenly, power-cycling often corrects them right away by purging newly-formed software glitches that may be responsible. Wait 30 seconds and then turn the phone back on, then place a call to test the microphone.

2. Plug a wired earpiece into the phone if the microphone still isn't working. After a few seconds, unplug the earpiece. This will prompt the phone to toggle between its "headset" and "normal" mode, resulting in the device forcibly turning its microphone back on. In some software-related cases, this resolves the issue. Place a call to test the microphone's functionality.

3. Perform a Master Clear if functionality hasn't been restored. This will completely wipe the phone's memory and rewrite the operating system, effectively removing any bugs that may have caused your microphone to stop working. This can be accomplished by pressing *#7370# on the keypad. When prompted, select "Yes." Make sure to back up any important data before doing this. Place a test call.

4. Contact your cellular carrier or the device manufacturer for replacement or repair if the above steps have failed to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, at this point the problem is related to an internal hardware malfunction and cannot be repaired on your own.
