Unlock Cell Phone For Different Carriers

To keep phones under their control, cell phone networks will often lock their phones so that they can only be used on their network. This means that if you want to use a phone you purchased from one network on another, you will have to unlock the phone. Unlocking the phone will allow you to take the phone with you to any other network that the phone is compatible with.

Instructions

1. Determine the type of phone you have. As each unlock procedure is different, depending on the phone, this is crucial to finding a way to unlock the phone.

2. Record the following information: Your mobile number, carrier, manufacturer and model number and IMEI number. (Most IMEI numbers can be found by entering *#06#, but you may have to consult your manual for a specific number.)

3. Contact your phone network's customer service and ask it to unlock your phone. Note that not every network will be willing to unlock your phone.

4. Find a phone unlocking service that can unlock your phone (see resources below for some services).

5. Provide the service with the information gathered in step two. You may also have to provide a fee as well for the service.

6. Enter the code given into your phone. Typically the response from the unlocking service will give you instructions on do this.
