A Nokia 1110 cell phone often comes locked when you purchase it from a network carrier, such as AT&T or T-Mobile. To get it unlocked, you typically have to wait for the contract to end. However, if for some reason you need to use the phone with a different network carrier, you will have to get it unlocked using a code generated by a third party company. Usually you are able to get free codes for this particular handset, i.e. 1110. There are some other paid resources as well, just in case the free code doesn't work.
Instructions
1. Find out your Nokia 1110's IMEI number. The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number is a cell phone's unique 15-digit code used for identification purposes. You can find it out by pressing "*#06#."
2. Get the unlock code from a website like Unlock Nokia Free, Unlock4All or GSM Liberty. (See Resources.) Unlock Nokia Free and Unlock4All offer an unlocking code for Nokia 1110 for free, while GSM Liberty will charge you $9.99 as of 2010 for getting the code. When you go to the website, enter your phone's IMEI number and select your network carrier from the drop-down list. If applicable, make the payment via credit card, and obtain the code.
3. Power off your phone, and take out the existing SIM card. Then insert a SIM card of a network carrier other than the one the phone is currently locked to.
4. Power on the phone. You will be prompted to enter a SIM card code. When you see this message, enter the unlock code you had obtained from the website. When the phone detects the code, you will see the message "SIM Restriction Off."
