Improve Wireless Usb Modem Reception

Improve Wireless USB Modem Reception

A USB modem that is available from a wireless carrier, such as AT&T or Verizon, attaches to the USB port on your computer to connect to the Internet. These types of USB modems use a wireless connection which means that any interference can cause a decreased signal quality. You can improve the reception of a wireless USB modem by moving the location of the modem using a USB extender cable.

Instructions

1. Plug the male end of the USB extender cable into a USB port on the desktop or laptop computer.

2. Plug the USB modem into the female end of the USB extender cable.

3. Turn on your desktop or laptop computer and connect to the Internet.

4. Place the USB modem in an area where you seem to get the best reception. The location for the best reception in a home will typically be near a window.

5. View the strength of the wireless signal to see if the signal quality increases. Right click on the wireless icon from the Windows Taskbar and click the Status option from the context menu.

6. Leave an open and clear space around the modem to ensure nothing is covering the modem. This means making sure the modem is placed on the inside of window blinds or shades if it is sitting on a window sill or ledge.

7. Secure the modem on a wall, window or other location using a small piece of masking tape.
