TracFone is a prepaid phone service that allows users to make and receive calls without the hassle of an expensive monthly bill or long contract. If you've purchased a new TracFone and need to switch your existing TracFone number to your new device, you can change the phone online or over the phone. You also receive 10 bonus minutes and 60 days of service when you upgrade. Within a few minutes, you'll be chatting on your new phone.
Instructions
1. Navigate to the TracFone activation page on your computer's Internet browser (see Resources).
2. Select "Transfer My Service and Phone Number From One TracFone to Another" and click the picture of the phone model you are activating. Click "Submit."
3. Select the picture of your old TracFone and click "Submit."
4. Log into your TracFone account with your email address and password. If you don't have an account, you can set one up by clicking the "Register" button.
5. Locate the serial number on the phone. The number is located on a sticker under the battery and can be labeled ESN, ESN HEX, IMEI or MEID. While the method for opening the phone varies, most phones generally have a battery door that you slide off by pressing down and pulling it towards the bottom of the phone. Remove the battery by pinching the edges with your fingers or pulling on the battery removal tab. Refer to the phone manual for specific instructions.
6. Locate the serial number on the SIM card. The SIM card is also located under the battery. Depending on the phone, it fits into a slot or bracket on the phone. SIM cards have the serial number printed on one side.
7. Enter the serial number for the phone and the SIM card into the appropriate fields on the TracFone website and press "Submit."
8. Dial "*22888" and press the "SEND" or green phone button to program the phone. Listen for a voice prompt that says the phone is programmed successfully.
