Change A Speaker On The Motorola Rocker

Fixing your ROKR's speaker

While the Motorola ROKR functions as a normal cell phone, complete with features like text-messaging and video camera, it also serves as an MP3 player that stores and plays music via the iTunes Mobile media player. Needless to say, if you want to listen to music on your ROKR, you need a functional speaker to hear the music. So if you have a broken speaker on your ROKR, you can open it up and replace the speaker. All it takes is a little time and concentration.

Instructions

1. Turn your ROKR over and slide the back battery cover off the device. Then use your fingers to lift the battery out of its compartment.

2. Slide the LCD screen to the up position so the keypad is revealed. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws on the top corners of the back of the screen.

3. Insert the tip of your case opener tool in the seam between the front of the LCD screen and the back. A case opener tool can be purchased at any electronics store. Run the tool along the screen until the front half pops off. Set it aside.

4. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws on the bottom corners of the front of the ROKR. Use your fingers to unplug the thick orange cable at the bottom of the LCD screen and lift the screen out of the phone.

5. Remove the four screws located on the corners of the back panel of the phone. Then remove the two screws on the sides of the battery compartment. Gently pull the back panel away from the phone and set it aside.

6. Locate the circular black speaker in the upper left corner of the motherboard in the interior of the phone. Remove the single screw holding it in place and then disconnect the speaker cable from the speaker with your fingers.

7. Install a new speaker (available from your Motorola retailer or online) and reassemble your ROKR in the reverse order you took it apart.
