Reformat your phone's memory card without losing all of your data.
Your phone's memory card may contain your pictures, texts, phone numbers or any other information you've chosen to store on your card (as opposed to the phone itself). Reformatting the memory card is going to erase everything on it and reset its settings to default. However, you may not want to get rid of every piece of data on your card, in which case you'll need to save certain items. This can be accomplished relatively easily if you just know what method to use.
Instructions
1. Remove the memory card from your phone.
2. Plug the male end of the USB memory card adapter into one of your computer's USB ports.
3. Insert your phone's memory card into the USB memory card adapter.
4. Open "My Computer" and double-click the icon that corresponds with the memory card adapter (it usually has the brand name of the adapter beneath the icon).
5. Click and drag any files that you want to save, and drop them on your computer's desktop.
6. Right-click the memory card adapter drive that you opened in a previous step, and choose "format" from the menu.
7. Click "Start" in the pop-up dialog window, and then click "OK" when a pop-up window appears, notifying you that all information on the memory card will be erased.
8. Click and drag the files that you stored on your desktop in an earlier step, and drop them back into your memory card window.
9. Remove the memory card from the USB adapter and put it back into your phone. It has now been reformatted, but still contains the data you didn't want to erase.
