Boost Mobile Opera Mini Installation Procedures

iDEN phones use SIM cards, but are not compatible with GSM.

Installing Opera Mini on a Boost Mobile phone requires care because Boost Mobile devices run on Motorola's Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN). In order to install Opera Mini and other Java-based applications on an iDEN Boost Mobile phone, you must use the Motorola iDEN Java App Loader (iDENJAL). Additionally, the file names of the Opera Mini files must be changed so iDENJAL can properly address and copy the files to a Boost Mobile phone.

Download the Files

Visit the Opera Mini website to download the two Java files necessary to install the Opera Mini app. Using the onscreen tools offered on the Opera website, select the make and model of the Boost Mobile phone on which you want to install Opera Mini. Click on both the .jad and .jar files to download them to your computer.

Change File Names

In order for a Boost Mobile iDEN phone to recognize the Opera Mini files, the names must be changed as to use fewer characters. Right-click on each of the downloaded files. Rename the .jad file to "mini.jad" and rename the .jar file to "mini.jar."

Change File Associations

Double-click the "mini.jad" file to open it. Change the "MIDlet-Jar-URL: ???.jar" entry to read "MIDlet-Jar-URL: mini.jar." This ensures the .jad file properly points to the renamed .jar file, which lets you copy and install Opera Mini onto your Boost Mobile device.

Download and Install iDENJAL

Although users with administrative access on their accounts can configure an over-the-air installation, the easiest way to install Opera Mini on a Boost Mobile device is to download the iDEN Java App Loader, from Motorola. This utility lets you transfer Java apps from your computer to Motorola iDEN phones like those from Boost Mobile. Download iDENJAL from Motorola and install it on your Windows computer.

Install Opera Mini on Your Boost Phone

Open iDENJAL and open the "Preferences" menu. Ensure "USB" is selected as the connection method for loading Opera Mini on an iDEN phone, and connect your Boost Mobile phone to the computer via USB. Open the "Download" menu and select "mini.jad" to copy it to your Boost Mobile phone. Wait for the transfer process to finish, which will be noted in the iDENJAL window on your computer. When the process is complete, disconnect the phone from the computer and unplug the USB data cable from the Boost Mobile phone, as well.

Verify Installation

Open the "Java Apps" menu on your Boost Mobile phone, and locate the Opera Mini logo. Press the "OK" button to launch the application to verify it works correctly.
