Portability is perhaps the greatest convenience a cell phone offers. For better or for worse, this flexibility can lead to problems, specifically if you wish to use your cell phone at the same time you're completing an activity that uses your hands. If you find yourself in this situation, one option at your disposal is to activate your your cell phone handset's "speaker phone" feature, which will allow you to listen and talk without your hands.
Instructions
1. Place the phone call as normal. You can't set your phone to speaker if no sound is passing through it, so you'll need to make a phone call in order to activate this feature.
2. Listen through the receiver until the person you're calling picks up. Although some speaker phones are loud, the sound of a phone ringing can be faint, and you might end up missing when your friend answers.
3. Press the "Speaker" button once your friend answers. On some cell phones, the word "Speaker" will appear on the screen above one of your main navigation buttons. For touchscreen smart phones like Apple's iPhone and the BlackBerry Storm, you will see a "Speaker" button on the screen itself.
4. Use your phone's Bluetooth feature, if it has one, to connect it to a Bluetooth-enabled speaker in your car or on your desktop. Bluetooth is a technology which allows for wireless transmission of data at the push of a button. Activate your phone's Bluetooth in its "Settings" menu and follow the instructions your external speaker provides on using it with the phone.
