Your address may be viewable to millions of Internet users.
Your address and other personal information about you may be found online on many search sites. Companies and even state agencies sell this information to help businesses in solicitation efforts. Luckily, you do have the option to remove your address from public access for safety. Before you can do this, you must determine what information about you is available to the public and what sites are listing your address.
Instructions
1. Contact your phone carrier and request that your number and address be unlisted. This normally costs a small monthly fee that will appear on your monthly bill. This removes your address from phone books both online and in printed form.
2. Request that your address be deleted from websites where it appears, such as White Pages, People Finders and other sites designed to help others locate you. You can do this by going to each site and filling out the "contact us" form at the bottom of the page.
3. Sign up for the National Do Not Call list. This will prevent calls from businesses and also hide your address so companies cannot send you junk mail or spam emails.
4. Visit Delete Me to register your address. This is an online company that removes your address from all major people finder sites in bulk. This option may take up to six weeks to completely remove your address from the sites.
5. Call all three major credit reporting agencies to request that your address not be sold. Experian, TransUnion and Equifax are the three main agencies. These companies commonly sell your information for business purposes. Requesting that this information be kept private and not sold will prevent unwanted solicitation.
