Transfer Phone Data to a New SD Card
An SD (secure digital) card is a type of memory card that you can use with a variety of devices including cell phones, digital cameras and game consoles. The device has to have a corresponding SD card slot. If you have a new SD card for your cell phone, the first thing you should do is transfer your phone data over to the card so you can free up some space on your hand held device. You can perform this transfer in just a few steps using a computer or laptop.
Instructions
1. Insert your new SD card into your cell phone. For most devices, you will have to slide the card into a slot on the side of the phone or remove the battery and insert the card into an encasement. Replace the battery (in the latter case) and boot up the phone.
2. Connect the cell phone to a computer using a USB cord (make sure the cord is compatible with your particular mobile device). This cord sometimes comes in the package when you buy a new phone.
3. Wait for the computer to recognize your new hardware (the phone). A dialog box will appear asking you for instructions regarding the new portable device. Click the option to open your device's file folder. You should see a folder for the media card and your device memory.
4. Go to the device folder first and select all of the files and folders that you want to transfer to the SD card. Press "Ctrl" and "X" to cut the files from that folder.
5. Navigate back to the media card folder. Press "Ctrl" and "V" to paste the files onto the SD card.
