Unlock A Gps Chip In A Verizon Blackberry 8830

GPS chips in Blackberry devices are now unlocked.

GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) technology can pinpoint any location on the planet using a signal from an electronic device. When a phone uses GPS, not only can the phone be located, but mapping programs can tell the user where he is and get from one place to another. The GPS chip included in Blackberry devices has been unlocked by Verizon since December 2008. Previously it could not be used. With an enabled chip the Blackberry 8830 can begin using GPS related functions and programs. These include Blackberry maps and Google maps.

Instructions

1. Download the latest operating software for the Blackberry 8830. The minimum operating software that allows GPS usage is OS 4.5 (Operating System 4.5). The operating system can be downloaded directly from the Blackberry site to your computer, then synced with the Blackberry device. Connect the Blackberrry to the computer via a USB cord, then use the Blackberry Desktop Manager software CD that came with the phone when purchased.

2. Accept the software update when prompted on the phone. Wait for the update to be completed. The Blackberry 8830 will restart when the update is finished.

3. Proceed to the Settings tab from the phone's main menu. Select the "Device GPS" option from the Settings menu. Make sure the GPS is set to "Enabled." The 8830's GPS is now unlocked.
