Find drivers for your Visoneer 5300 USB Scanner.
Visioneer has been making computer scanners for years now, and as a result many of their older products have been classified as "end of life." This means the scanner is no longer actively supported by Visioneer, and the company does not release updates to ensure the scanner works with newer operating systems. The 5300 USB scanner was released more than a decade ago, and drivers can be found for Windows 98 and earlier. Windows XP and beyond are not supported, however, and any drivers you install are not guaranteed to work right.
Instructions
1. Insert the original CD that came with your 5300 USB scanner and search for the "drivers" folder. This will have the original drivers, though they will work only with older operating systems.
2. Visit the Visioneer 5300 download page and click on the driver download button to save drivers to your hard drive. The online support webpage has drivers available for Windows 2000, ME and Windows 98.
3. Use the Windows Update utility to install the best drivers for Vista and Windows 7 versions, though you should be aware there might be complications. Connect the scanner to the computer USB port and wait for the computer to automatically install drivers.
4. Restart the computer if it does not see the scanner. This will reset the plug-and-play function, and Windows should install drivers it selects as best for the scanner.
5. Click "Start," "All Programs" and then select "Windows Update."
6. Select "Check for Updates" from the left-hand pane menu. Look through any updates for drivers for the 5300.
7. Manually check for updates using the device manager. Click the "Start" button and then type "Device Manager" in the search bar and press "Enter." Right-click on your scanner (it will be listed under either "Other Devices" or "Imaging Devices") and select "Update driver software."
8. Choose to search automatically for new drivers. Windows will search and let you know if a better driver is available to install.
