Discs are a way to create "hard" backup of your text messages.
With an increasingly large portion of communication being delivered via text message, it may be a good idea to back up some of your important messages. Keeping text messages stored on a disc provides an easy-to-access library of your messages that will last as long as the discs are in good condition. Depending on your phone and your computer setup, there are a few ways to go about backing up your messages.
Instructions
1. Work with the software included with your phone. Most smart phones have some sort of device software that performs tasks such as updating, organizing, and backing up data. If you have software of this nature on your computer, you should be able to export the messages in a text format and burn them to a disc with your disc burning software.
2. Forward important text messages to your e-mail account. If you need to back up all of your messages, this may not be the best path as it is time consuming. But if you only want to keep a record of a few important texts, it is an easy way to get them to a computer. Once they're in your email, you can copy them into a Word or text document and burn them to a CD.
3. Purchase a SIM card reader. Most phones store messages and other important data on their SIM cards, so if you have a SIM card reader you can connect your phone's data directly to your computer. You can then import messages into a readable format and burn them to a disc. Check your phone to ensure the SIM card is accessible; many modern phone designs will not allow for removal of the card.
4. Subscribe to a service that provides real-time, constant cell phone monitoring. These are primarily for parents who wish to track the texting and phone conversations of their children, but can also be useful if you just want to keep a record of your own phone activity. Depending on the service you use, you should be able to get a copy of all the text messages you sent, which you can then put on a CD or DVD disc.
