Unlock Your DVD Player
You may have noticed that your DVD player will not play certain DVDs from other regions of the world. If you have a DVD you want to watch that may be from a different country outside the United States, including in Asia and Africa, you will have to unlock your DVD player in order to watch that DVD. This involves following a few steps and pressing a few buttons on your DVD player's remote control. The codes vary from DVD player to DVD player.
Instructions
Panasonic
1. Turn the DVD player on and open the tray where you would insert a DVD.
2. Press numbers 9, 8,1 and 7 in order using the DVD remote control.
3. Press the "RC" button on the remote followed by "Enter."
4. Press the "Return" button and then close the DVD tray either by pushing it with your hand or by pressing the "Open/Close" button on the remote or player itself.
Sony
5. Press the "Power" button to turn on the DVD player. Make sure there is no DVD inside. If there is, take the DVD out, turn the power off and then turn it on again.
6. Press the "Subtitle" button on the remote control followed by numbers 3, 8, 7, 6 and then 7.
7. Press the 9 button on the remote control. This will unlock your DVD player. These steps need to be repeated every time you want to play a DVD that came from outside the United States.
Pioneer
8. Press the "Power" button to turn on the DVD player. Make sure there is no DVD inside. If there is, take the DVD out, turn the power off and then turn it on again.
9. Press the "Setup DVD" button on the remote control.
10. Select "General" on the screen menu and then "Basic."
11. Press the "Shift" and "DVD Display" buttons at the same time on the remote control.
12. Press the "RC," "Shift" and "Condition" buttons simultaneously, followed by the "Shift" and "DVD Display" buttons simultaneously. This will unlock the Pioneer DVD player.
Zenith
13. Press the "Power" button to turn the Zenith DVD player on.
14. Press the "Pause" button on the remote control.
15. Press the 3, 1, 4, 1, 5 and 9 buttons on the remote control, one number at a time.
16. Press the "Pause" button on the remote.
17.Turn the DVD player off and then on again to unlock it.
