Unlock your Motorola MPX220, and use other service providers.
Most phones on the GSM network come locked to the carrier from whom you purchase the phoner, and the Motorola MPX220 is no exception. This means that you are forced to use one service provider; the one that sold you the phone. There is a solution, however, and it's called unlocking. Unlocking your MPX220 will allow you to swap out your SIM card for a prepaid or foreign SIM card, essentially allowing you to use other networks without having to sign a new contract.
Instructions
1. Get your MPX220's IMEI number by typing "*#06#" into the keypad. A 16-digit number will appear on your screen. Take note of this, and set it aside momentarily.
2. Call your service provider's tech support department, and request an unlock code. You'll need to give them your IMEI number, mobile number and possibly your voicemail password. If they won't give you a code, you can buy one from a site like Mobileunlocksolutions.com, Mobile2mobile.net or Foneszone.co.uk (see Resources for links).
3. Turn the phone off, and remove its SIM card by sliding off its back case and removing the battery. Slide the SIM card out, and replace it with your foreign or prepaid SIM card.
4. Turn the phone back on. Your screen should say "Enter Subsidiary Code." Key in the unlock code that you received, and your phone should now be unlocked.
