Connect Bluetooth To A Pc

An external Bluetooth dongle for PCs.

As of 2010, many of the newer laptops come with a built-in Bluetooth connection, which is accessible by clicking the function key and then F3. Unfortunately, many desktop PCs do not have Bluetooth connection, but there is an option to make them Bluetooth enabled. Once they are enabled by Bluetooth, you can connect to the Internet via Bluetooth, or accept and send files to external Bluetooth devices.

Instructions

1. Buy a USB dongle from a computer or electronic store. USB dongles are portable Bluetooth devices that work to convert your PC to a Bluetooth device.

2. Plug your USB dongle into the USB port located on your PC. Do not force it in or it will break.

3. Wait for the Bluetooth dongle to install. A dialogue box will open that reads "installing device software" or "installing driver software." When this box opens, do not click close. When the driver is finished installing, the box will automatically close or leave you the option to click the button "finish."

4. Install the driver located on the installation disc that came with the Bluetooth dongle. This step may not be necessary if your computer does not specifically ask for you it.

5. Switch the Bluetooth setting to "enabled" on the device that you want to connect your computer to via Bluetooth connection.

6. Open your start menu and go to "Control Panel." From here you will need to select "Network and Internet," then choose "Set up a Bluetooth-enabled device." A Bluetooth Devices window will open; from here click on "Add."

7. Select the option that reads, "My device is set up and ready to be found." Click the "Next " button.

8. Click the name of your Bluetooth device. If you've enabled Bluetooth on a cell phone, select the name of your cell phone from the device list. Keep in mind that any active Bluetooth in the area will be in this device list.

9. Supply a passkey when prompted; this can be the passkey that was provided in the Bluetooth dongle's documentation, or you will be given two additional options, which are to make up your own passkey or ask Windows to suggest a passkey. On your other connected device, you will be asked to enter the same passkey to establish a connection. Once you have selected the option you want, click "Next."
