A Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card is a removable chip that is inserted into phones with Global Systems for Mobile Communication (GSM) capabilities. The SIM card is used by the cellular service provider to identify the subscriber. You can transfer a SIM card between GSM cellular phones. In addition, you can use the SIM card to transfer contact information between phones. The Nokia 5230 is a GSM-based cellular phone, and you can use the phone's SIM card to transfer information from the device.
Instructions
1. Press the "Options" button on your Nokia 5230.
2. Select the "Settings" option and choose "Contacts to display."
3. Select the "SIM memory" option.
4. Select a contact and press "Options." Select "Copy" and press "SIM memory." Repeat this step for each contact you want to transfer using the SIM card.
5. Open the cover to the SIM card slot. When looking at the back of your phone, the SIM card slot is located on the right side of the phone.
6. Push the SIM card in to activate the spring that releases it. The SIM card will pop out slightly. Pull it out with your fingers.
7. Insert the SIM card into any GSM cellular phone. Check your owner's manual if you don't know insert a SIM card into the phone.
8. Copy the contacts from the SIM card to your new GSM phone. Consult your phone's manual to determine copy information from your SIM card to your new phone.
