Unlock your cell phone to avoid roaming charges.
Chances are that when you purchased your Nokia 8801 cell phone, your service provider locked the phone so that you will be unable to use it on any other networks. In order to enjoy the full convenience of your cell phone and avoid expensive roaming charges, you will need to unlock it so that you may take advantage of other networks as well as the one from whom you purchased the phone.
Instructions
1. Call your cell phone provider and ask for the code that you must use to unlock your phone. Although it is possible that your provider will give you this code for free, they will most likely charge a fee. Alternatively, you can go to a website, such as the one listed in the "Resources" section, to purchase your unlock code. You will need to provide the IMEI number for your cell phone, found under the battery on the back of the unit.
2. Remove the SIM card and turn on your phone. Disregard any text on the display panel.
3. Input the following code, using your keypad: Press #, then * three times in quick succession in order to get the letter "p." Press * four times very quickly to display the letter "w," then * again twice quickly to get the "+" symbol. Next, insert your unlock code, then "+" again, "7" and the # key. The formula will look like this on your phone's display: #pw+CODE+7#.
4. Wait a few seconds until you see the display "SIM Restriction Off." Your phone is now permanently unlocked.
