Set Up Gprs

Setting up GPRS lets you have high-speed Internet content on your phone.

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a wireless network service used to send and receive data through the Internet Protocol. It runs faster than standard mobile phone dial up connections, thereby offering high-speed Internet content on your phone. GPRS also makes MMS (Multimedia Message) possible, which lets you enhance your message with pictures and sound clips. Over-the-air (OTA) configuration via the web is a way you can set up GPRS on your phone by obtaining GPRS settings online. Usually, though, GPRS service must be enabled by your mobile phone network operator before GPRS settings can be configured.

Instructions

1. Activate GPRS on your phone number. Call your network operator customer care center and obtain a GPRS activation code. Send the activation code to the number provided to enable GPRS on your phone. Network providers often have different activation procedures for prepaid and postpaid users but activation usually involves sending a specified SMS message to a given number. Note that some handsets are GPRS enabled by default. Consult your handset provider to find out if your phone is GPRS enabled.

2. Visit the official website of your network operator and navigate to the support web page. Click the GPRS configuration link. You may need to register an account with the service provider before proceeding. Enter a user name and password in the "sign in" tab and click "Log in" to activate your account.

3. Select your mobile phone model from the list provided.

4. Note down your network provider's instructions and settings to configure your mobile device according to your device's model specifications. GPRS settings vary with network providers and the make and model of mobile phones.

5. Grab your mobile device and follow your service provider's instructions accurately. Enter the availed configurations, including connection name, access point name and user name by keying in the information in the right places. Contact your service provider customer service center for help if you encounter any problems setting up GPRS on your phone.
