Activate Verizon Phones

Verizon wireless offers several brands of phones and plans. To begin calling and texting on a new Verizon phone, you must activate it---a process you can complete online. You'll only need Internet access and your phone's electronic serial number (ESN) or Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) number, which you'll see listed on the phone. Once you have activated your phone, you can use it for the length of your Verizon contract, which generally lasts two years.

Instructions

1. Remove the back cover of the phone and remove the battery to locate the ESN or MEID. An ESN will be a code with 11 or eight digits that begins with a letter ranging from A to F. The MEID will have 14 digits and will begin with a letter from A to F.

2. Log on to the "Activate a New Phone" page on the Verizon website. At the prompts, type in the cell phone number, billing zip code and either the EIN or MEID. Enter the information, double-check it for accuracy and click "Continue."

3. Type the phone's order number at the prompt. Look for the order number on the receipt from your purchase of the phone. Also type the last four digits of the social security number of the person on the plan.

4. Wait five to 10 minutes while the phone finishes activating. A message will appear on the Verizon Web page once this process is complete.

5. Call a friend or family member to ensure that the phone works properly. Also test other applications, such as texting and emailing, at this time.
