What Is A Blackberry Packet Error

After removing and replacing the battery, wait for the BlackBerry to reboot fully.

BlackBerry smartphones connect to the Internet using a packet data network, which delivers network information in small chunks of data known as packets. If the BlackBerry is unable to receive network information, it shows a 'packet error' message. There are two types of packet data information shared along the network. An easy way to remedy the error message is to reboot the BlackBerry.

Data Packets

Data sent over a wireless packet network between a BlackBerry and other devices, including smartphones and computers, is formatted into a unit called a packet. Over other networks, data can take the form of bytes, bits or characters. BlackBerry smartphones receive data in the form of packets, so a packet error indicates that data has not been received from the sender. The faster the packets are sent over the network, the faster the connection.

Two Packet Data Types

The packet network through which the BlackBerry sends and receives packet data contains two types of data present in each of its packets. The first type is known as control information and it communicates with the packet data network itself, providing the source address and destination address. The second type is user data or payload data. This is the actual data, such as a text message or an email, that is being sent along the network.

Packet Error Issues

When a BlackBerry user receives a "packet error" message, it means that the packet network between the BlackBerry and the other item sending data is either not receiving the data or it's not being sent fast enough. Packet errors can affect emails, the wireless Internet connection on a BlackBerry, BlackBerry Bluetooth connections and any activity that requires the network, like texting and downloading.

Resolving the Packet Error

There are several options for the BlackBerry user to resolve the packet error. The first and easiest method is to remove and replace the BlackBerry battery as a reboot. Keep the power on, take off the back cover and remove the battery. Wait 60 seconds and then replace the battery. Wait for the reboot process. Sometimes BlackBerry devices have memory leaks, so this method could restore the phone. Another option is to check the data connection. The data service icon must be in all capital letters. For example, it is 1XEV instead of 1xev. Verify that the BlackBerry is in a good connection zone.
