Remove The Java Icon From A Cell Phone

Many people frequently enjoy playing games on their mobile phones. These games are often Java-powered, meaning that while they are in operation, an icon will appear at the top of the screen alerting you that a game is running. This little coffee-cup shaped icon is helpful because games eat up a lot of battery power and, if left running in the background, can leave your phone powerless when you need it the most.

Unfortunately, as with all software, bugs can manifest that cause that icon not to go away even when you've exited a game properly. A few simple steps can resolve this problem relatively easily.

1. Power off the phone and quickly turn it back on. Many people don't know that, in order to avoid software issues from occurring, it's helpful to restart the phone now and then. Doing so shuts all programs down and allows you to start fresh on reboot. This may remove the Java icon if the game did not shut down properly upon the last exit.

2. Remove the back cover and pull the battery out while the phone is on. This will wipe potentially-clogged information in the device's memory cache that may be causing the issue. Power the phone back up and check for the icon again.

3. Perform a master reset. Over time, software issues do build up and random symptoms (like a stuck java icon) indicate that it may be time for a reset. By reverting the software back to its factory standard configuration, the Java icon will vanish.

Generally, this is accomplished by pressing "Menu," "Settings," and then "Master reset." However, steps will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so you may need to refer to your user manual for more phone-specific steps on completing this task.

4. Perform a master clear on the device. Should the icon still be present even after a software reset, it is necessary to completely wipe all information from the device and start with a fresh installation of the operation system. Remember, while the master reset reverted all settings back to the original configuration, a master clear actually erases all information stored on the phone, even the operating system itself. This means that all contacts, pictures, games, songs, etc. need to be backed up before taking this step.

Generally, you will find an option to "Save Contacts to Sim" in the address book menu. Media files are usually stored to a memory card by default but, if your phone does not use a memory card, you may need to send pictures and videos to an email address for backup.

Usually pressing "Menu," "Settings," and "Master clear" will initiate the wipe. Because steps do vary, though, you may need to again refer to your user manual for more specific instructions. When the master clear is complete, a fresh copy of the software is installed from protected memory and you should find that the stuck icon is no longer a problem.
