If your Nokia cell phone is currently locked to a particular network provider like AT&T or T-Mobile, you'll need an unlock code to free it from network restriction. Cellphone unlocking is a perfectly legal practice. After unlocking the phone, you will be able to use it with any service provider you want. Nokia unlock codes can be obtained from both free and paid sources. The paid sources do not provide any guarantee for their codes to work, and you always risk locking the phone permanently. The paid sites, on the other hand, offer you money back guarantee for their unlock codes.
Instructions
1. Type "*#06#" on the phone's keypad to find the IMEI number. You will need this IMEI number for obtaining the phone's code. The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number is a unique 15 or 17 digit code used for identifying individual handsets working on GSM networks.
2. Go to a website that offers free unlock codes for Nokia cell phones. Some of these websites include Unlock Nokia Free, GSM Liberty and Peters1. On these websites, choose your cell phone model from the list and enter the IMEI number in the respective field. You might also have to specify the network the phone is locked to. The website will then generate a couple of unlock codes for your handset.
3. If you don't want to use a free unlock code perhaps due to the risk involved, purchase the code from a website like Unlock All Cellular, The Travel Insider or GSM Liberty. Depending on the network the phone is locked to, you will be charged a particular fee for it. You will have to provide the website with the phone's IMEI number and the network carrier's name so they can generate a code for you. The code will then reach you through e-mail.
4. Power on your phone without any SIM card in it and type "#PW+CODE+1#". After entering this code you will see a message "SIM Restriction Off." If you are using a code from a free website, you might have to try more than one code provided by the website. However, do not enter more than three inaccurate codes or your phone will be locked permanently.
