Troubleshoot Error 205 Messages On A Cell Phone

Error message 205 is a Blackberry cell-phone-specific condition that results when the smartphone encounters a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) application related malfunction and cannot keep functioning. Three possible steps may be attempted to fix it -- updating the BlackBerry's Device Software, performing a hard reset and reinstalling the operating system.


Instructions


Update Device Software


1. Connect the phone to an Internet-connected computer via the included USB cable.


2. Open a browser on the computer and navigate to the Blackberry Device Software updates website (see Resources).


3. Click "Check for Updates," type your password in the dialog box and click "OK."


4. Click "Get update" if the application finds an update, and follow the onscreen instructions to finish the update process.


Perform Hard Reset


5. Slide off the battery cover from the back of the phone.


6. Pull out the battery and wait approximately 60 seconds.


7. Reinsert the battery and replace the battery cover.


Reinstall Operating System


8. Remove the battery from the phone and connect it via USB to a computer that has the BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed on it.


9. Click "Update" when prompted with "Retry, Update or Cancel," and click "Get Update" when prompted with "Get Update, Update Later or View Other Versions."


10. Uncheck the checkbox next to the email address dialog box, and click "Install Update" to have your operating system reconfigured.
