Turn your mobile phone into a webcam.
With a simple and inexpensive piece of software you can turn your mobile phone camera into a webcam. It's convenient because you don't have to carry an extra piece of hardware around with you if you are traveling. It will also allow you to do video conferences with friends, family or colleagues no matter where you are.
Instructions
1. Choose a program that will change your cell phone into a webcam. There are several programs that will do this. Some that you can consider are Qik, Mobiola and Webcam Plus (see Resources). As of 2010, they are priced between free and $29.95.
2. Download Qik. This is a free application, but you will need to register your cell phone number email address and create a user name to get it. When you have done this, follow the set-up wizard to install and configure it. This program is designed to work with social networking websites like Facebook, MySpace and Ning. It will allow you share your videos with friends and family as well as do video conferencing.
3. Buy Mobiola ($24.99 as of 2010), which comes with a seven-day free trial. This program is designed to work on smart phones such as BlackBerry and Treo. You will be able to connect your phone to your computer via USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. You can use it to do video conferencing with programs like Skype, ICQ and Yahoo Messenger.
4. Buy Webcam Plus ($5.99 as of 2010). It is a fairly basic program. You will be able to connect your cell phone to your computer using a USB cable. When you have done that, you will be able to use it with video chat programs like Skype, MSN Chat, AOL Messenger and ICQ.
