Nokia GSM phones can be unlocked with an unlock code.
When you establish cell phone service with a particular provider, it typically provides a phone compatible with its network but locked so that you will not be able to use the device on another provider's network. However, entering an unlock code will enable the device for use on most other networks.
Instructions
1. Remove the SIM card, then switch on the device.
2. Type in *#06#. The device's IMEI, a unique identification number, will appear. Write down the number.
3. Obtain an unlock code for the device (see Resources). Be prepared to cite the device's IMEI number to obtain the code.
4. Enter the code on your phone by typing one of the following strings: #pw+[unlock code here]+1# or #pw+[unlock code here]+7#.
5. Power off the phone, insert the new SIM card, and turn the phone on again.
