Unlock your Tata phone so that you can use it anywhere in the world.
Tata Docomo is a cellular service provider in India that uses the GSM platform. If you purchased a phone through Tata then chances are that it came locked. This means that if you wish to use the phone abroad that you will need to get it unlocked. Although this is perfectly legal to do you will need to complete your contract with Tata before doing so. In addition you will also have to purchase unlock codes for your SIM card.
Instructions
1. Search for an online store that sells unlock codes. A few that you can use are TradeUnlock, GSMLiberty and CellfServices (see resource links) As of 2010 codes cost between $15 to $35.
2. Retrieve your IMEI (international mobile equipment identification) codes by dialing in "*#06#" into your keypad. This will bring up a 15- to 17-digit code.
3. Go to the site you have chosen to purchase codes and enter your personal e-mail, phone manufacturer and model, and IMEI.
4. Check your e-mail from time to time. Providers will ask for a 0-72 hours wait time before the unlock code is delivered through e-mail.
5. Unlock your Tata phone. Replace the phone's SIM card with another from a different network provider. Once you turn on the phone, you will receive a prompt that says "Enter Special Code." Type in the unlock code and wait for a few seconds. The new SIM will be recognized by the phone, and the new network provider's logo will appear at the top of your phone screen.
