Fix A Broken Hinge Spring On A Nokia 9500

The Nokia 9500 cell phone has a top cover that opens to reveal a horizontal LCD screen and keypad. This cover operates on hinges, which connect the two pieces of the phone together. If you've been having problems with the top portion of the unit you can disassemble the phone and fix the hinge spring.

Instructions

1. Turn the phone over, slide the battery door off of the rear of the unit and remove the battery.

2. Open the top half of the phone and insert the edge of a plastic card, such as a credit or discount card, in the seam where the plastic frame meets the top of the keypad.

3. Work your way around the frame until it pops off.

4. Lift the keypad off and set it aside.

5. Use your screwdriver to remove the nine screws on the panel covering the lower half of the phone. Remove the panel and set it aside.

6. Pop the metal tab on the left side of the phone up and remove the top half of the phone from the bottom. The hinges are located on the bottom corners of the top portion of the phone.

7. Twist the end of the hinge off of the hinge and then remove the spring from inside the hinge.

8. Fit a new spring in the old one's place and reverse the steps for reassembly of the unit.
