Use the IMEI code to switch out Nokia's memory card.
To allow a cell phone to work with another network provider, the cell phone must be "unlocked." To change to another network from Nokia is easy and requires only a few things, like the memory card, also known as the SIM card, from the new provider and the IMEI code from Nokia, which identifies the individual phone.
Instructions
1. Contact Nokia and notify them that you wish to switch networks. Nokia will send you the IMEI code of the phone and may or may not charge, based on the original contract you signed with Nokia. The code should arrive within a few days.
2. Turn off the phone and remove the portion of the phone protecting the battery. Near where the battery sits is the slot for Nokia's SIM card. Replace Nokia's SIM card with the SIM card of the new provider chosen. They should provide this as per the new agreement.
3. Restart the phone. It will detect the new SIM card and ask for the IMEI code. Enter the code provided by Nokia using the phone's dial pad. Now the phone will operate using the new card and network.
