Transfer A Cell Phone Contact List To A Mac

Connect your cell phone to your Macintosh computer to back up your contacts.

Depending on your cell phone's compatibility, your contacts can be backed up to your Macintosh computer using the default iSync application. As of August, 2010, iSync 3.0 supports synchronization for Palm, Motorola, Siemens, Nokia, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Sendo. Once a connection is established, you can merge data between your Macintosh computer and your cell phone, or simply transfer information one way, according to "Mac OS X Leopard: The Missing Manual."

Instructions

1. Insert the cell phone's USB cable into the cable port on the phone, and insert the opposite end of the cable into your Macintosh's USB port.

2. Open the iSync application located in the "Applications" folder in Finder. Select "Sync Devices" to scan your computer for connected mobile devices, and double-click the name of your cell phone in the discovered devices list. ISync will notify you if the device is not compatible for synchronization.

3. Select your preference for existing contacts in the Address Book, and select the empty box next to "Contacts" and click the drop-down menu. Click "All Contacts" on the drop-down menu. When transferring contacts to your Macintosh computer, you can merge the phone's contacts with the computer's contacts, keep the existing computer contacts or erase them.

4. Selec the "Sync Devices" button to transfer your cell phone's contact list, and unplug the USB cable from the computer once the synchronization process is complete.
