Unlocking your Nokia E61 is easy with unlock codes.
The Nokia E61 was released in 2006. It was one of Nokia's first smart phones that uses the Symbian operating system. In addition to being able to email, edit documents and surf the Web, it has a full QWERTY keyboard and wireless options including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. If you are interested in using the phone outside of your country then you must unlock it, otherwise you will pay high roaming fees. To do this you need an unlock code.
Instructions
1. Find your Nokia's serial number. This is also known as the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identifier) number. Do this by dialing *#06# into the keypad. A 15-17 digit code instantly appears on the screen. Write down the number.
2. Go to a website that sells unlock codes for the Nokia E61. A few sites that you can use are GlobalUnlock.com, Unlockster.com, and UnlockToTalk.com (see Resources). These sites provide a code for $14.99 to $29.99, as of 2010.
3. Type the serial number (IMEI) into the website that you've chosen to use. For the "make" of the phone, select Nokia; for the "model," choose E61 from the drop-down boxes. Choose United States for the "country" and "AT&T" for the "carrier." Enter your payment details and email address and purchase the codes.
4. Check your email in one to two days. Write down the code exactly as you see it.
5. Turn off your Nokia E61 and remove the battery and SIM (subscriber identity module) card. Replace it with a SIM card from a different cell phone carrier. Replace the battery and turn on your phone. When your phone prompts you for the unlock code, type it in exactly as you see it. The phone beeps, flashes and restarts. When it comes back on, the new cell phone service logo appears at the top of the screen.
