Unlocking a Nokia phone requires a code from your provider
With the increasing costs to purchase mobile phones like the Nokia 6300 it's important to be able to use the device on a competitors network in the event that you decide to change your network provider to someone other then AT&T. There are several online locations where you can pay for unlocking codes that will allow you to use your phone on other networks, but you are limited to entering your unlocking code five times before the handset permanently locks. This is why going through AT&T to get the code for your Nokia 6300 is the best option.
Instructions
1. Pull the battery out of the Nokia 6300 and locate the Nokia detail sticker that is located on the back of the phone underneath the battery. Record the IMEI number. This is the unique serial number of the phone. You'll need it when you contact AT&T customer care.
2. Contact AT&T customer care at 1-800-331-0500. You'll need to be the account holder or an authorized user that can verify the account. Advise the customer care rep that you want to complete a SIM subsidy unlock. They will ask you for the IMEI number and model of your Nokia. The AT&T rep will file an Unlock request that usually takes up to 24 hours to complete. They will E-Mail the unlocking code to you.
3. Remove the SIM card from the Nokia, replace the battery and then power the phone back on. The phone will state, "insert SIM." Type the code that was given to you by AT&T customer care. The phone will now be unlocked and ready to use on a network other then AT&T.
