Germany is a country located in Europe. According to the CIA's World Factbook, Germany is the most populous country in Europe after Russia. Even with the large population, the geographic structures have not suffered. Germany is known for its rich landscapes and extensive history. Many of the buildings that still stand are centuries old. It would benefit you to learn the German language, and you will likely learn it faster than you would in the States since you will be totally immersed in German from the beginning.

1. Try enrolling in a German language program that allows you to board with a German family. This is a unique way to travel and live in Germany while mastering the language. This option works great if you wish to be fully immersed in the language. There are several programs that offer this type of service. The Collegium Palatinum, AmeriSpan Study Abroad and Abroad Languages are some examples of companies that offer package deals. 2. Hire a tutor to help you learn German. It shouldn't be hard to find a native when you are already positioned in Germany. Post an ad or go by word of mouth. 3. Enroll in a German language course at a local college or university. It doesn't matter where you are staying, you can find a school that offers German language courses. Berlin, Munich, Hanover and Cologne all have well-established and reputable universities. Two examples are the University of Bremen or the University of Hamburg. Go through the admissions office to sign up for the courses you want. Many people do speak English in Germany, especially at universities and schools. Therefore, you shouldn't have much difficulty communicating.


4. Make some friends while in Germany. Insist on communicating in German. This is one of the best ways to practice. You can learn new vocabulary words and local expressions. This also allows you to practice your speaking skills and work on pronunciation.


5. Get out and explore the country once you feel comfortable enough with the language. This will force you to use your newly learned language skills. Reading signs and asking for directions will turn you into a pro in no time. Try visiting Münsterschwarzach Abbey, Schloss Linderhof or Burghausen. The first is the oldest Abbey in Franconia and the last two are old German castles. This is just a few examples of historic places to visit while in Germany.
