List Of Austrian Universities

Austria is a German-speaking European country neighboring Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary and Italy. Austrian students have nine years of compulsory education before being awarded a Reifeprufung Certificate. The Reifeprufung Certificate gives students access to higher education. Higher education in Austria is both publicly and privately funded with colleges and universities across the nation. Austrian colleges and universities offer a Bachelor's degree, Master's Degee, Doctorate degree and Habilitation (a special university qualification based on post-Doctorate research achievements).


University of Vienna


Since its founding in 1365, the University of Vienna has grown to have a student body of approximately 86,000 with a staff of 8,900. It is the largest teaching and research university in the country, with 54 bachelor's programs, 112 master's programs, 5 diploma programs and 8 doctoral programs. The University of Vienna offers a variety of faculties including the various departments of hard sciences (Biology, Chemistry, etc), Social Science, Humanities, Business and Theology. Research is facilitated by both the main university library and many small sub-libraries. In 2009, the total inventory in volumes was almost seven million. International students are considered an important aspect of the university. As a member of several international networks and partnerships, the University of Vienna hosts visiting students from approximately 130 different countries.


University of Salzburg


The University of Salzburg is the largest learning institution in the Salzburg region. Since its re-establishment in 1962, the university has grown to over 14,000 students and 2,700 staff members. Academia in the university is divided into four faculties: Cultural and Social Sciences, Theology, Law and Natural Sciences. Within these faculties students can enter a bachelor's program, master's program, doctorate program, teacher training program or diploma program. Continuing education non-degree courses are also available for up to six semesters. Enrolled students are welcome to sit-in on courses for enrichment, although they will not count toward a degree.


University of Klagenfurt


The University of Klagenfurt is a large university in Carinthia that offers bachelor's, master's, doctorates and teaching certification programs. The bachelor's and master's degrees offered include Social and Cultural Sciences, Internet Technology and the Humanities. Internationalism is a key characteristic of the university. It offers international exchange programs and joint study in other Alpen-Adria region universities. Because Carinthia borders Italy and Slovenia the joint study program offers both on-site cultural exposure and language education. The University of Klagenfurt even offers English courses in a wide range of subjects including linguistics, psychology and anthropology.


University of Graz


The University of Graz is the largest learning institution in the Styrian capital. There are approximately 27,000 students working toward over 100 bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees. The university was originally founded in 1585 and has grown to include six different faculties. Programs fall under Theology, Law, Social and Economic Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Environmental and Regional Sciences. Joint degree programs are also available for Master's and Doctoral students and employ a staff of over 3,500 people.
