How Do You Open The Battery Compartment On A Ge Phone

Corded and cordless GE phone use batteries in different ways. Typically, corded phones use batteries as a secondary power source in case of a power outage. Cordless handsets use rechargeable batteries as a primary power source. Depending on the design, the battery compartment may house several batteries or a single battery pack. Whatever the type of GE phone, opening a battery compartment isn't usually a complicated process. In most cases, taking a moment to understand the design used to secure the door to the phone is all that is needed.

Instructions

Corded Phones

1. Unplug the phone jack from the corded GE phone. Unplug the AC adapter from the wall outlet and phone.

2. Hold the corded handset securely in its cradle on the main body of the phone and turn the phone over.

3. Look for a square or rectangular shaped door. If there is no door, turn the phone right side up and lift the handset from the cradle. GE may have placed the battery compartment in the cradle portion of the phone body between the circular cavities where the handset usually rests. The door is likely covered by a telephone number directory insert.

4. Unlock and remove or pry away the battery compartment door to open it. Push a latch or button on the door to unlock it or place the tip of a flat-headed screwdriver into a groove along the top or bottom edge of the door and pry the door up until it pops away from the phone. Set the door aside.

Cordless Phone

5. Turn the phone over and look for a battery compartment door on the back. If there's no door, check the bottom of the phone.

6. Unlock or slide the door away from the phone and set the door aside. This may require pushing a latch or button, prying the door away with a screwdriver or sliding it from the phone. If the door slides from the phone, there should be an arrow indicating which direction it slides.

7. Look for natural seams in the body of the phone and never force access to an area. Some phone have a streamlined appearance that further masks the battery door compartment. The battery door is made to open and should never require undue force.
