Backup Sim Contacts

Protect the contacts contained in your phone's SIM card.

The SIM card within a cellular phone allows the user to store information in a device's phone and address books. With a SIM card reader, you can easily edit the data on your SIM card and perform timely backups in case you lose the phone or decide to upgrade. A SIM card reader is usually a USB device offering plug-and-play features. With a reader, you can load the contents of your SIM card onto a computer hard drive to safeguard against the loss of important contacts.

Instructions

1. Purchase a SIM card reader. A reader can connect your SIM card to your computer, where you can store, edit and restore your SIM card information.

2. Connect your SIM card reader to your computer. Your computer will usually recognize the new piece of hardware and automatically establish proper communication between the computer and the SIM card reader. You may also want to pop the installation CD into your CD-ROM and install any software that caters to the SIM card reader.

3. Take the SIM card out of your phone. Flip over your cell phone and remove the back cover. The plastic, rectangular card is usually located behind the battery, secured by a locking mechanism. Slide the SIM card out of the phone.

4. Insert the SIM card into the SIM card reader. Click on the software icon located on your desktop to run the SIM card reader application. Copy all SIM card contents into a folder on your hard drive. In case of a malfunctioning or lost phone, you now can connect a new SIM card to the card reader and load all of your contacts onto the new card.
