You can use some smart phones to connect your laptop or desktop computer to the Internet. BlackBerry smart phones are capable of this and, with a Verizon account, tethering a laptop with a BlackBerry is quick and simple. Be sure beforehand that your particular Verizon plan allows for tethering.
Instructions
1. Connect your BlackBerry smart phone to your computer with the USB cable that comes packaged with your phone.
2. Open your BlackBerry Desktop Manager software and click the IP Modem icon in the main menu. If you do not have this software, install it from the BlackBerry support site; it includes the drivers needed to recognize your phone as a modem.
3. Click the "Configure" button, then pick the "Set-Up Option" from the drop-down list labeled "Connection profile."
4. Select "Verizon" from the list of service providers and click "OK."
5. Click "Connect" to complete the process.
