What Activity Is Stored In A Sim Card

SIM cards store your account information, phone number, contacts and text messages.

Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards store service information about GSM cellular phone users. These cards contain account information, mobile phone numbers, contacts and SMS text messages. SIM cards simplify the process of transferring your account information to a new phone.

Function

The SIM card in your cellular phone stores your International Mobile Subscriber Identify (IMSI) number, which identifies you on a wireless network. The card holds up to 250 personal contacts as well, including a record of recent calls you've made and received. It also contains any Short Message Service (SMS) text communications you've made.

Features

When upgrading your phone, you can transfer the SIM card from the old model to the new phone, including the information it contains. SIM cards also use a SIM Personal Identification Number (PIN) system to protect the information on your card from unauthorized access.

Considerations

SIM cards only work with GSM-compatible phone carriers. Before buying a new phone, verify that the model supports SIM card technology. If concerned about privacy, it's possible to delete the phone numbers, contacts and SMS messages stored on your SIM card.
