Key Functions For The Nokia E63

Released in late 2008, the Nokia E63 is a standard smartphone designed for business professionals. Supported by Nokia's Symbian S60 operating system, the E63 operates on multiple data networks and Wi-Fi to provides your connection to the Web and your contacts. Nokia released multiple software updates for the E63, incorporating new features such the music player, Office 2007 support and enhanced operating functions.

Making Phone Calls

The main function of the Nokia E63 is for making wireless phone calls. An older device, the E63 is designed to operate on GPRS, EDGE and 3G, which allow for limited Web browsing and decent call quality. The phone option is accessed using a hardware button on the face of the phone rather than selecting an app through the LED interface.

Sending Messages

The most distinguishing feature of the handset, the large QWERTY keypad on the Nokia E63 provides you with an interface for composing text messages and emails. The keypad includes a "Contacts" button for accessing the contacts stored on your phone and sending a recipient an email or text message, allowing you to bypass the menus in the LED interface. Although text messages are restricted to 160 characters, the E63 will automatically split up messages exceeding this number into multiple messages.

Taking Pictures

The camera on the E63 is mounted to the back panel and includes an LED flash for taking pictures as night. The 2-megapixel camera is capable of taking pictures at a resolution of 1,600 by 1,200 pixels and shooting video until the device's microSD card maxes out on memory. Although the pictures taken by the E63 are softer compared to its predecessor's, the images are still clearer than the first generation of phone cameras.

Viewing Media

With both Wi-Fi, EDGE and 3G capabilities, the Nokia E63 includes access to Web-based media, streaming radio and video games that may be downloaded from the Internet. The Web browser is capable of rendering XHTML and CSS but doesn't support dynamic content such as Flash or HTML5. In addition to reading standard music file types, the Nokia E63 includes a document viewer for rendering PDF, DOCX and XLS files.
