Problems receiving text messages on your Samsung Intensity can hinder your ability to communicate with friends and family. You may need to troubleshoot the problem if you notice that a longer period than usual has passed without any new messages. Basic troubleshooting can help you resolve a messaging problem.
Coverage
If your Samsung Intensity is not within your mobile service provider's network, you may have trouble receiving text messages. Depending on your carrier, you may not be able to receive messages if you are roaming or the phone does not have sufficient access to the provider's network. If you are within your normal coverage area, try moving to a different location within your area. Use the phone's signal strength indicator at the top of the Intensity's screen as a guide. Send a test message to your phone if the indicator shows at least two bars.
Airplane Mode
Messages are sent to your Intensity phone using the phone's data connection. If data is disabled on your phone, you won't be able to send or receive messages. Check your phone's data settings to ensure it is enabled and not in airplane mode. Press the "Menu" key on your phone and click "Settings and Tools." Click "Phone Settings," and then click "Airplane Mode." Click "Off" to disable airplane mode. Send a test message to determine if you are able to now send and receive messages.
Soft Reset
A soft reset can possibly help when the Samsung Intensity will not receive messages. If another application is preventing the phone from receiving messages or if the messaging application has stopped or didn't open properly, a soft reset can force it to close and properly relaunch. Pull the phone's battery while it is still on to soft reset the phone. Wait one minute before replacing the battery and turning on the phone. Send a test text to your 10-digit phone number to determine if the problem has been solved.
Master Reset
A master reset of your Intensity phone may resolve continuing problems with receiving messages. If the problem is related to an issue with the messaging application or other software, when it is reset to factory settings, the issue may potentially be resolved. All data is erased on the Intensity during a master reset. Press the "Menu" key and click "Settings and Tools." Click "Phone Settings," and then click "Security." Enter the last four-digits of your phone number and click "OK." Click "Restore Phone," and then click "Yes" to confirm the selection.
