Move Ringtones From Itunes To A Cellphone

Moving a ring tone to your phone is relatively specific to your brand and model of cellphone. Certain phones will only accept certain file types, or have length or size limits on the ring tones. There are generic ways of moving ring tones to your cellphone, but for more detailed help, you will need to consult your cellphone's documentation.

Instructions

Moving Ringtones to your iPhone

1. Convert your ring tone to the .m4r extension. iPhone ring tones are .m4a files that have been renamed to .m4r, with a 30-second time limit.

2. Locate the .m4a file you want to make a ring tone of.

3. Right-click the file, and click "Rename."

4. Rename the end of the file name from ".m4a" to ".m4r" and then press Enter. Confirm the change, then double-click the file. This will now automatically enter iTunes as a ring tone.

5. Connect your iPhone and iTunes will transfer your ring tone file automatically.

Emailing Ringtones

6. Find the ring tone in your iTunes library, right-click it and click "Open in Explorer."

7. Open your preferred email client.

8. Compose an email to yourself. This method works if you can receive email on your phone.

9. Add the ring tone located in Explorer as an attachment to the email.

10. Send the email. When the email arrives on your phone, download the attachment to your phone.

Transferring by USB

11. Find the ring tone in your iTunes library, right-click it and click "Open in Explorer."

12. Connect your phone by USB cable to your computer.

13. Double-click "My Computer" and locate your phone connected by USB.

14. Locate a folder called "ring tones," "tones" or similar.

15. Switch to the folder with your ring tone in it, click it, then click "Edit" and "Copy."

16. Switch to the ring tones folder and click "Edit" and "Paste." Disconnect your phone.
