Text messages are alright if you have unlimited plans, otherwise, holding a conversation can become quite expensive. Thankfully, most cell phones allow for instant messenger programs such as Yahoo Instant Messenger to be installed quickly and easily.
Instructions
Downloading Through a Cell Phone
1. Power on your cell phone and allow it to boot up as normal.
2. Open your phone's browser. If you are using a cell phone that is not a smart phone, your browser will most likely open directly to your carrier's mobile site.
3. Scroll down to the "Downloads" menu. From there, scroll to where you see "Yahoo Instant Messenger."
4. Select "Yahoo Instant Messenger" and select "Install." The program will then download onto your cell phone and install automatically.

5. Power on your cell phone and allow it to boot up as normal.
6. Open your cell phone's Internet browser. Wait for the browser to fully load before moving on to avoid potential complications.
7. Type the following URL into the browser: "get.go.yahoo.com." After entering the URL, hit "Enter."
8. After the Yahoo Mobile Web page loads, click "Get Yahoo Go Now" and follow any instructions that appear on your phone.
9. Follow the instructions and click "Install." The program will then download directly to your phone and install itself, prompting you when it is completed.
Download From Computer Browser
10. Open your Internet browser and go to the following URL: "mobile.yahoo.com."
11. Enter your cell phone number, including area code, where prompted. Yahoo will then send you a text message.
12. Follow the instructions in the text message and follow the link sent to your cell phone. The software will automatically download and install itself onto the phone.
