Make A Telephone Number Private

Making your telephone number private is a great way to protect your privacy. Besides, having your number unlisted, you can keep you number private by having your outgoing calls blocked. Depending on your needs, there are a couple of ways to do this.

Instructions

1. If you do not want people to be able to find your phone number through 411 or the phone book, you will want your number to be unlisted. Call your phone provider and request this. Be aware, there will be a one-time fee for this service.

2. If you would like your phone number to be blocked from someone's caller ID when you call, you can make this happen on a per-call basis. Press *67, followed by the rest of the number. For example, *6719095551212. This is a universal way to block specific calls.

3. To permanently have your outgoing calls show up as private on someone's caller ID, you must request this service from your phone provider. Be prepared to pay a one-time fee. Once your line is permanently blocked, you may selectively choose to unblock it by pressing *82 and dialing the number.

4. If you would like to block your cell phone number when calling someone, you will need to call your provider and ask if they use signal switching. If they do, ask them set up blocking with your particular cell phone model.
