Unlock A Samsung Genio Qwerty

Unlocking your Samsung Genio lets you use it with a SIM card from any network.

The Samsung Genio QWERTY is a mobile phone that comes equipped with a full keyboard. It also has a touch screen and was designed as an inexpensive alternative to the BlackBerry. If you purchased your Samsung Genio through a cellular network, then it likely came locked. Many mobile service providers do this in order to prevent you from switching to another company. However, this can be problematic when trying to use your phone abroad as you will not be able to use it with another SIM card and will be forced to pay expensive roaming charges.

Instructions

1. Call your cell phone provider's customer service line and ask for an unlock code to your Samsung Genio. Tell them that you would like to use the phone outside of the country and do not want to pay roaming fees. Many phone companies will not give you an unlock code, especially if you are still under contract to them. If your cell phone provider refuses, you will have to purchase a code.

2. Type "*#06#" into your phone and a 15-digit number will appear. This is known as your international mobile equipment identification number. Write it down.

3. Locate an online store that sells unlock codes for the Samsung Genio (see Resources).

4. Go to the website where you are purchasing your codes and type in your IMEI number. For manufacturer, choose Samsung; for the make, select Genio from the drop-down menu. You may also need to select your mobile service provider and country. Enter a valid email address and your payment details. Most sites accept Paypal or a major credit card.

5. Check your email in a day or two and retrieve your code.

6. Turn your Samsung Genio off and take out the battery. Remove the white rectangular SIM card and insert a new card from another network. Replace the battery and turn the phone back on. Wait until you get a prompt to "Enter Subsidy Code."

7. Type in the unlock code exactly as it appears in the email. Click "OK" and wait until the phone restarts. When it does, the name of the new mobile service provider will appear at the top. Your phone is now unlocked.
